Dr Chris Danbury MB BS M.Phil FRCP FRCA FFICM

A Consultant Intensive Care Physician, Dr Christopher Danbury MB BS M.Phil FRCP FRCA FFICM has almost 30 years’ experience as a doctor. He has been at the Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading since 2002.  He is a medical specialist trained and assessed to be proficient in the comprehensive clinical management of critically ill patients as the leader of a multi-disciplinary team.

He trained in general internal medicine and anaesthesia before switching to intensive care medicine and was appointed in 2002 as a Consultant Intensive Physician in one of the busiest District General Hospital Intensive Care Units in England. The unit has an excellent record and is widely known as a centre of excellence.

After gaining a M.Phil in Medical Law, he was offered a personal appointment as Visiting Fellow in Health Law by the Senate of the University of Reading in 2005, which he still holds today.

Dr Danbury is an experienced expert and has been instructed in cases reaching the High Court, Court of Protection, Coroner’s Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. He has extensive experience of giving oral evidence in Court, including ‘hot-tubbing’.

He is regularly called upon as an expert in clinical negligence cases involving the treatment of critically ill patients with life-threatening single and multiple organ failure and those at risk of clinical deterioration.  His expertise extends to those who have received or needed resuscitation and care in an intensive care or high dependency clinical setting – specifically:

  • Adult General Intensive Care Medicine
  • Deteriorating adult patient
  • Sepsis, including sepsis following elective surgery, and necrotising fasciitis
  • ‘Track and trigger’ / Early Warning Scores (MEWS/NEWS)

He is also an expert in end of life care, the diagnosis of brain death and care and support of the organ donor and frequently involved in the management of deteriorating and seriously ill patients outside of the intensive care unit as well as the transport and retrieval of critically ill patients.

His expert witness work is split 40% Claimant, 40% Defendant, 20% Single Joint Expert.

Dr Danbury is available as a mediator covering a wide range of disputes and is registered with the Civil Mediation Council.  He lectures on healthcare mediation both to National and International meetings.
